Doing it Right

Evelyn Evelyn are Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley's concept duo: imagined orphan twins, joined at the sides, seeking an End to Tragic Events. It is The White Stripes on crack. Crack cut with dish-washing powder.

But what is amazing is the level of fan-service that went into the pre-release. See some of it here [http://www.jsrdirect.com/webstores/evelynevelyn/] for yourself. The budget pre-order packages are fantastic, but the more expensive options are also great value. From one-thousand-and-change dollars, you can get meat-time with the artists, which is actually a pretty affordable option.

Not to mention, I also received an unexpected bonus in my inbox: the pre-order packages are on their way, but the album was offered as a download in the meantime. They even went so far as to offer it in a multitude of formats, including Ogg Vorbis, which is nothing short of amazing. You almost never get an artist considerate enough of their listeners to even expect they'd want anything that isn't a lame mp3 rip or AAC.

And the album itself? "Evelyn Evelyn", "Have You Seen My Sister Evelyn", and "Elephant Elephant" are fantastic tracks you won't be able to get out your head. Most of the rest of the songs are rather narrative-dependent, but are still very listenable in their own right.

But possibly the best is the final track: when conjoined twins are covering "Love Will Tear Us Apart", there is a level of irony going on I never knew could even exist.
